1. Take an evening walk.

After dinner, head outside for a short walk around the block. I love doing this with my family on summer nights when we don’t have to worry about early wake-ups for school. Evening walks are a great way to unwind, chat about the day, and get some fresh air. Family walks are also an easy exercise for busy moms because you’re killing two birds with one stone. You’re getting your steps in and being active, but you’re also spending some quality time with your family, which is one of the best benefits of walking for moms.

2. Play a sport together.

Another fun idea for healthy family activities is playing a sport together. Score some goals in a backyard soccer game, chase each other during a game of tag, shoot some hoops, or have a catch. With a little friendly competition, you won’t even feel like you are exercising since you will be having fun!

3. go on an outdoor adventure.

Plan a fun outdoor adventure as a family. Some great options are a hike on a scenic trail, a bike ride through your neighborhood, or even a paddleboarding outing if you live near the water. Exploring nature together will provide more excitement so the outdoor adventure won’t feel like typical exercise.

4. Have a dance party.

Singing and dancing releases those feel-good endorphins. Turn on your favorite songs and have a family dance party in the living room. Everyone will instantly feel happier and you’ll be active too, making dance parties fun and healthy family activities. My daughters love being the DJ for our dance parties with their Yoto Mini. It allows for dance parties anywhere!

5. Do a family yoga or stretching session.

When you and your kids get restless, do some simple stretches or have a short yoga session together. You’ll all feel energized and relaxed. The Peloton App has great stretching and yoga classes starting at just 5 minutes long. My girls usually join in when I put one on. They may not follow the moves exactly but we have a lot of laughs. I like showing them different ways to be active and healthy.

6. Have a yard games competition.

Yard games are healthy family activities that are so fun too! You’ll be running, throwing, moving and won’t realize how much exercise you’re all getting until the games are over. Some yard games that my family loves are Kan Jam, Ladder Toss, and Cornhole. Stock up on some games for a fun and active afternoon!
