How to Make Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Shoulder BBQ

I found this recipe in The Primal Blueprint Cookbook, by Mark Sisson with Jennifer Meier, an ebook I received during my Primal Health Coach Certification course. With just a few minutes of prep, your slow cooker will handle the rest, making the pork both tender and flavorful. From seasoning the meat to letting it cook low and slow, here’s exactly how to make this mouthwatering BBQ dish with minimal effort!

Step 1 – Pat pork dry.

Start by patting the pork shoulder dry with a paper towel. Then place it in a flat pan or directly into your slow cooker.

Step 2 – Mix dry ingredients.

Mix all the ingredients for the dry rub – chili powder, sea salt, granulated garlic, black pepper, and dry mustard in a small bowl.

Step 3 – Apply rub to pork.

Next, apply the dry rub to the pork shoulder. Be sure to coat all sides of the pork and rub it in really well. Let the pork roast sit at room temperature for about a half hour in order to take the chill off.

Step 4 – Cook pork.

Place the pork roast in your slow cooker and cook it on low for 7-8 hours.

Step 5 – Shred the pork.

Once the pork is done, pull the meat apart with two forks or your fingers. You can also chop it into 1/2 inch pieces on a cutting board. Remove any tough pieces or large layers of fat and place the pork in a warm bowl. Mix some of the juices that accumulated in the slow cooker in with the meat before serving. Enjoy!
