1. Make playtime a mini workout.
One of my favorite ways to sneak in exercise for busy moms is to make playtime a workout. My girls LOVE to have dance parties. They put on some KIDZ BOP and dance around. They know which songs I love (“Shut Up and Dance”, anyone?) and ask me to join for those. We have a blast dancing, jumping around, and laughing. I usually work up a sweat too! Some other fun ways to exercise during playtime are to chase your kids or play tag.
2. Sneak movement into your day.
Another exercise for busy moms option is to add in extra steps whenever you can. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. If it’s a nice day, park farther away from the building entrance. Evening walks are also great healthy family activities. All of those extra steps will add up before you know it!
3. Use chores as exercise.
Most of the time I don’t mind doing the household chores since that’s an extra hour or more each day that I’m moving. Vacuuming adds extra steps. Hanging up laundry stretches out your muscles. Cleaning the bath tub involves bending, so you can throw in some squats too. Add some intensity to the chores by putting on some music and moving along to the beat.
4. Do quick bodyweight exercises.
Bodyweight workouts for busy moms can be done anywhere with no equipment and are an easy way to build some strength. You can also do them any time you are waiting, such as brewing coffee or boiling water.
Hold a plank by balancing on your toes and forearms, keeping the rest of your body off the ground. You can start by just holding for 10 seconds, and gradually add more time as you get comfortable.
Perform some squats by standing with your feet a little more than shoulder-width apart, toes pointing forward and slowly descend, as if you were going to sit in a chair. Stop when your knees reach 90 degrees and then stand up again.
Do a few jumping jacks by standing straight with your feet together and then repeatedly jumping your feet out and raising your arms up straight above your head, and then jumping again to return to starting position.

5. Make it social.
Catch up with a friend or two by going on a walk together after school drop-off, or before school pick-up. Time will fly since you’ll be having fun too, but the steps will definitely add up!

6. Set a timer.
It’s definitely easy to get caught up with the daily grind and forget to move. Remind yourself to move by setting a timer. Some watches do it automatically – my Apple Watch sends an alert if I haven’t moved in an hour. If you don’t have a device that does it for you, you can add movement reminders to your phone calendar so you don’t forget.
7. Make it part of your morning routine.
Make movement one of your morning routine habits. Start with some easy yoga or stretching. Moving in the morning can boost your mood and energy levels, I know it does for me!
8. Walk during calls.
If you’re on the phone a lot during the day, walk around the house or office during your calls instead of just sitting down. Those steps will add up quickly helping you take advantage of the many benefits of walking for moms.
9. Invest in a mini trampoline.
We bought our girls a trampoline for Christmas and I was excited to see that I can jump on it too! Mini trampolines are such a quick and fun form of exercise for busy moms.
